It's all about hydration and protection.
To see the best results from your skincare regimen, it’s important you apply the products in the correct order. The rule of thumb to follow is thin-to-thick - serums before moisturizers. Your daytime routine is all about hydration and protection from the sun and environmental pollutants so save the retinol for your nighttime regimen.
Let's break it down:
Step 1: Cleanser
Start off your day by splashing your face with warm water, or a very mild cleaner. I swear by One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil and Makeup Remover.
Step 2: Essence or Toner
Now it’s time to prep the skin for your serums. I prefer to use Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Brightening Glycolic Essence which adds moisture and soothes skin. If you have sensitive skin, we recommend the Jasmine Green Tea Balancing Toner by Herbivore Botanicals.
Step 3: Serum
Serums are super-concentrated, nutrient-dense treatments so it’s important that you choose one specific to your skin type that targets your area of concern. Right now I'm loving OSEA’s non-greasy moisture-boosting Hyaluronic Sea Serum.
Step 4: Eye Cream
Regular use of eye cream can improve or prevent fine lines or collagen loss. My current favorite is the Vital Eye Cream by Nuori.
Step 5: Moisturizer
Everyone needs a moisturizer, even if you have oily skin. I use my moisturizer as another opportunity to target my problem areas. If I’m having a breakout, I reach for OSEA’s Blemish Balm, followed by their Atmosphere Protection Cream.
Step 6: Oil
If your skin is on the dry side, you may want to add a face oil for extra hydration. I like to use this step in my routine as an opportunity for some self-care. After I apply a face oil, I give my face a massage with the Gua Sha tool.
Step 7: Sunscreen
The last, and most crucial step, your daytime routine is mineral-based sun protection. I love Suntegrity’s 5-in-1 Tinted Moisturizing Face Sunscreen.
